A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ME
Hi! Welcome to Adventures by April Gold, I’m glad you’ve found my little corner of the internet. I’m Rachael, a head of social media marketing, a travel consultant and blogger and one-half of a couple who are currently childless not through choice.
This blog is my place to help make sense of my experiences with infertility and pregnancy loss, share my travel tips, and – hopefully – help people like me find a place where they feel less alone.
Struggling to bring home a baby
My husband and I have been struggling to have a baby since 2017.
It’s been an impossibly hard few years, with multiple rounds of fertility treatment and miscarriages. But, we’re lucky to have the most incredible support network and so many things to be grateful for – including some wonderful holidays in the UK and abroad.
In the summer of 2023, we made the decision to stop fertility treatment – not an easy decision to make, but the right one for both of us. After a long time of feeling alone, defeated and left behind, I’m determined not to live my life on pause anymore. I’m working hard to come to terms with the prospect of a life without children. But I know whatever shape that life takes, it’ll be one filled with joy and adventure.
Adventures with my cockapoo
One of the many things I’m grateful for in life is my cockapoo, Baxter – I’m more than a little obsessed! He’s my inspiration to find joy in the little things every day, live life in the present moment, and nap more!
Adventures at Disney
I was raised on Disney. We spend hours watching Disney films and went to the cinema every time a new film came out. We spent our holidays at Disney World and Disneyland Paris. When we were little, my sister and I have very long hair, which my mum always plaited for us. One of my earliest memories is the Sheriff of Nottingham sneaking up and tying our plaits together – we thought it was hilarious!
As an adult, I’m still a huge Disney fan.
You can usually find me watching Disney films, singing along to Disney songs, planning holidays to Disney – for myself or my clients – or on a Disney holiday.
Disney has helped me find solace and escape from our fertility struggles, whether it’s watching my favourite film (it’s Cinderella, by the way) or heading to the parks. Disney is my happy place.
So, join me as I discover life after infertility, embrace the joy in the every day and plan (more than) a few holidays along the way!
Whether you’re a seasoned Disney-goer or a first-timer. Whether you’re struggling with infertility or just looking for a little escape. I hope you’ll find something on Adventures by April Gold that inspires and uplifts you. Because even though life can be hard and unfair sometimes, there’s still magic to be found in the world.
And on that note, you should probably know that I’m big into Harry Potter too!!
